NBN AND YOUR ALARM

What is it?

New infrastructure throughout Australia replacing the old copper network that your phones and internet have been using for the past 20 years or longer.

When will it be installed?

It’s hard to say. NBN Co developed a rollout plan but it isn’t updated regularly and may not be accurate. In some places, it is behind and in other places it has been installed up to 6-10 months ahead of schedule.

As far as we are concerned as your security provider, the NBN could be up and running in your area any day now. It could be tomorrow, next week or next month. The important thing is to act before it’s installed to ensure you are not without a functioning alarm system.

What does this mean for you?

In many cases, your alarm will stop sending signals once the NBN is installed. This means that your alarm system will not be working and we will have no way to know if something is occurring at your premise.

In the event that your alarm is compatible with the NBN, you need to be aware that should your internet go down, so does your security. In the past, alarm panels could be powered through the phone line. However, once the old copper network is taken out, this will not be the case. Simply put: no internet means no security.
